My paintings contain many layers both literally and figuratively speaking. There is a residue of time and experience that is suggested in the overlapping of layer after layer. The circle plays an integral role in my work, as does line and color. The relationships established between the various elements in my work evoke the intricate interplay between you and me, that tree and the sky, the building you’re sitting in and the soil it rests upon. My work references the exchange of energy that occurs beneath what’s visibly tangible. It invites you into the quantum realm where micro becomes macro, where everything is moving, alive and in a constant state of probability. It wants the viewer to recall the felt experience of being, before the senses obscured and diluted this state. Before taste, beyond touch, below sound. The paintings are reminiscent of the dance that occurs in any given dynamic…so intensely personal that they beg of you to touch the impersonal where you become the other and the other becomes you. It acknowledges the complexities of connection…spiritual, physical, emotional, etc. yet it hints at the perfect simplicity and synchronicity that underlies all connection. They want you to touch the essence of yourself and your experience; the thread that connects each one of us to each other and to our experience. They are paradoxical by nature, chaotically sublime and eternally ephemeral. The paintings invite you to grapple with the ultimate paradox of being a spiritual being in a physical body. They challenge you to reconcile this by recognizing what’s real, what’s true and important. They want you to remember what this experience is really about. They want to wake you up to now…this gift that takes the form of the present moment.
